I was heartbroken. Fortunately, a great friend and forum member graciously supplied Taylor with more of this incredible figured redwood, so that they could build me another guitar.
Then came the agonizing wait while the lumber was cured and cut to the proper dimensions, and a new guitar worked it's way through the custom shop. (In the interim, I did get to enjoy the original repaired guitar, which is now safely back in Taylor's hands.) Taylor took great care in building this new guitar, and used the finest hand-picked woods - AAA quilted maple body, AAA-flamed maple neck, etc. (Hopefully they were fully reimbursed by UPS for the damage to the original guitar!)
Yesterday, nearly four months from the time I received my original custom maple/redwood guitar, the new one arrived!
(** See pictures below! **) Huge thanks to the Taylor Custom shop for the great care that they took in building this guitar and making it spectacular in every regard! And a big thanks to my very favorite uncle in the sales department for getting me a replacement built, and making sure it was painless by allowing me to use the repaired guitar while me new baby was being built.
The tone of this guitar is simply amazing - meeting or exceeding the rich complex character of the original guitar. What does it sound like? Imagine the characteristics of a 714CE (cedar) and a 614CE together... Somewhere in between. Sparkly top-end, warm bottom-end, and excellent note separation. Each note rings out clear when played fingerstyle or strummed. A very rich and complex tone that is difficult to describe.
