).
The 00-12 size is sooooo comfortable (its my first 00 and its just like I was hoping for in playability) and the visual aspect is simply stunning. The real surprise, however, is the sound that comes out of this little girl.
I had asked Joel to build her with a 4 1/2 - 4 5/8 inch depth at the tail as I was looking for as deep and resonant a sound as I could get out of this small guitar. The result was telling when played side by side with the Orca (my first Stehr commission build) which is a larger guitar but has only a 4" depth. The sound out of this 00 is loud and round, and it projects amazingly. It has the signature redwood fullness/complexity that I've become addicted to (can you tell from my collection
). She reacts to the slightest of touch, which I like - being mainly a fingerstyle player - and Joel's set-up kept the action low.
Rick (Goodvibes) was out of the office on Monday when she came in, but on Tuesday he had a chance to play with her, and like I, was simply amazed at what the little girl could do. He's played her several times yesterday, and each time his approving comments were they same. No question in our minds that Joel has created a fantastic guitar for his first 00-12 model.

This is the 3rd guitar in my 5-6 guitar "Hula Girl" series that I'm having Joel build, and the 5th Stehr that I've had the pleasure of owning so far. I can't wait to see what the next Stehr Hula Girl will be like in 2010
!
